Babel Review

A moving performance by Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchette. Other notable mentions go to the Japanese actor who also played Nobu-san in Memoires of a Geisha. An emotionally intense movie that tells 4 separate stories that come together as it moves along. What I really appreciated about this film were the different perspectives that you can sympathsize with each scenario and character. I say it's Oscar worthy.

Thanksgiving in Cowtown

Here's baby Olivia..gosh, look at how big she is. And here are my boyz....all grown up and riding their bikes!!!!

Parksville

This is Parksville, Vancouver Island. I attended a conference here and stayed at Tigh-Na-Mara. Very rustic, but I had an ocean view which was absolutely beautiful. Oh right, and the conference was good too!

Erin and Cheryl Visit

Erin and Cheryl came to visit and well, Erin just couldn't resist herself from gardening, and so there we were at the market, I bought this plant that Erin advised me to buy, and then, voila, she potted it and now I have korean cabbage. Who knew? We shopped, ate, and had lots of laughs...exactly what the doc had ordered for all of us. Although we didn't have any naps, we all got well deserved and uninterrupted sleep and laughed our asses off!!!

PP06: Kelowna

Well, aside from missing a flight to Kelowna, getting a flat tire and missing another flight (not my fault) because Vancouver had some kind of lock down at the airport, I made it home. Good times with the gals...as usual. We all endulged at the spa and went to Mission Hill winery, other than that, we stayed in, had a horrendous experience at DJ's (mental note, don't go unless you like eatng cat food), had a fab dinner by Mary and the gals were very nice in playing along with my 'play that tune' game.

Visitors Continued.....

Outside Vancouver Art Gallery, Still Life

After dining at Sandbar (yumm), Ming and Julia

Aside from shopping, we did manage to get out and sample various ethnic foods. Ok, who am I kidding.....all we did was shop and eat!!!!!

Family Visits

I've been blogless this past month, mostly due to my family being here. It's come and gone so quickly I can't believe it's over! Julia, Dave and the kids leave tomorrow and I'm having a sleepover on their last night with the kids. Oh ya, and I've been extremely busy at work.
This is Ben. He got an boo boo on the tip of his nose from a face plant on the sidewalk :(

It's been a couple of months since I last saw Matthew and Ben and they change every time I see them - it kills me, but it's so fun to watch them grow. I'm saddened they aren't babies anymore, but that's ok, because all my friends have babies now. Must be something in the water?

Next guest to arrive.......Robin from Fort McMurray for the September long weekend. I believe we have plans to go camping. I haven't been camping since I quit camping with Mary. Should be interesting - will take lots of pictures in case nobody believes that I actually can camp.

Celebration of Lights - Mexico

I couldn't tell you who won the Celebration of Lights, but they were all great, especially the finale. Me and my cousins and their family all came to my place and we went down to Kits beach on the last day.

So you think you can dance should be so you think you have a funny face!

I can't believe Benji won the most 'favorite' dancer. I am still very upset and disappointed with the outcome ho0wever, America did vote and they also voted for Bush so it ain't say'n much! I was really rooting for Travis and was so sure he would win. This is what happens when America votes. Maybe if they had Canada vote, the country would not be in such a state.

I'm trying to convince Mary to attend So You Think You Can Dance Live Tour 2006, Seattle, WA Tue, Sep 12, 2006 but she seems to think it's impossible. I also think working out is impossible so I find that excuse supremely lame.

Family Visit

Well, sadly enough, batch #1 of visitors are coming to an end. Momma and papa Wong left Sunday night with our bellies full of an amazing dinner we had with all our relatives. So delish. Cindy leaves tomorrow morning and on our last day together, we will meet up for lunch with our Aunt and Uncle and have a big ass steak at the Keg tonight!

Our credit cards took a beating when we went cross border shopping. The best buy was my $8 rounded toe cowboy boots. And to boot, we didn't have to pay any duty! Gotta love it when that happens.

I took Cindy to the Lantern Festival at Trout Lake. I was a little disappointed in some of the displays but all in all, it was a good walk-about. I bought these flashing light up toys for Matthew and Ben and one of them is a fisherman with the flashing light as the fishing rod. Well, it's strategically placed above his waist, however, it looks like his fishing rod is a big long schlong. Not too sure if mummy would approve but the kids would never 'get it' so it may be ok.

Batch #2 arrives a week tomorrow! Bring it!!

Fashion Timeline: Madonna

A look at Madonna, the ultimate fashion chameleon…let's face it, we've all morphed into the trends over the years and they're coming back to haunt me (i.e. leggings and leg warmers)

There is one trend in Madonna's timeline that was left out. Her Ray of Light Album when she went all Shakra.

In a career over 24 years old that is showing no signs of stopping any time soon, Pop Diva Madonna has spent her entire career reinventing herself. She has consistently found a way to reinvent both her style of music and of fashion like no female artist has ever done before. The singer, actress and acclaimed author has proved she is ahead of the times. By the time the world has caught on to the 'new' Madonna, she's already bored and ready to move on.
As Madonna continues to dominate on her 2006 Confessions World Tour, we take a look back at a few of her most memorable looks:

Boy Toy BeginningsApril 1, 1985Armfuls of rubber bracelets, crucifixes, torn t-shirts, tights, lacy bras and more were the unofficial uniform of New York's dance students through the late 70s. After signing her first singles deal with Sire Records in 1982, the budding pop star took the tattered look mainstream. As Madonna mania began in the early 80s, the advent of the "Madonna wannabe" began. As teenage girls around the country got the Desperately Seeking Susan look down pat, Madonna morphed into a new look.

Karen sayz: Let's admit it, we all wanted to be her and adopted some form of Madonna in our wardrobe during the 80's.

Blonde AmbitionApril 20th, 1990In 1990, French designer Jean-Paul Gaultier designed the costumes for the Blond Ambition World Tour. Some consider Gaultier’s reinvention of underwear as outerwear in the design of Madonna's iconic cone bustier which she flaunted onstage his most famous contribution to modern fashion. To this day it is Madonna’s most memorable look.
Karen sayz: Still loved it back then and now. I mean, how many of us were at one point Madonna for Halloween?

63rd Annual Academy AwardsMarch 25, 1991For her 1991 Oscar appearance (performing the nominated song Sooner or Later from the film Dick Tracy) Madonna channeled Marilyn Monroe in a Bob Mackie beaded white strapless body-hugging dress complete with fur and formal length gloves. To top off her look, the ultimate fashionista was wearing $20 million worth of diamonds on her neck, ears, and wrists. Karen sayz: Not my favorite, but loved Material Girl. Tribute to Marilyn has been done to death.

Viva Evita December 14, 1996In 1996, Madonna's most critically successful film, Evita, the movie adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber's stage musical of the same name, was released. For years Madonna had petitioned to play the role of the life of Argentina's Eva Perón, believing that this was the role she was born to play. After winning the coveted role she transformed herself into the equally controversial figure wearing glamorous Christian Dior suits complete with red lipstick and her hair bleached and pulled back into a knot.

Karen sayz: Her acting sucks but her fashion doesn't. Big fan of CD, and very couture.

Memoirs of a GeishaFebruary 24, 1999For one of those most over-the-top Grammy performances of all time, Madonna re-invented herself as a geisha, inspired by Arthur Golden's book Memoirs of a Geisha. Madonna wanting to transform herself into one of the books characters, Hatsumomo wore a red kimono designed by Jean-Paul Gaultier, obscenely high platform boots and a jet black Cleopatra style wig for the performance. Considering very few artists can change their image on such a large scale, Madonna’s geisha-infused performance was a complete success.

Karen sayz: 'gong show' that's all I gots to say

Cowboy Fever November 5, 2000Madonna released her album Music in 2000, returning to the charts and the fashion world with a cowboy-inspired incarnation. But this clean and simple country look wasn’t cheap. Her beaded jeans where curtsey of superstar Canadian designers Dsquared. This was also the beginning of the pop icon’s t-shirt statements. Here she declared her admiration for fellow pop-star Britney Spears.

Momma MadonnaJune 7, 2005Over the years Madonna’s style has evolved and matured. In 2005, she celebrated the release of her fifth children's book, Lotsa de Casha, in style with a kid-friendly event at Bergdorf Goodman in New York. The Mother of two continued to show off a more sophisticated style with a stunning Dolce & Gabbana dress.

Confessions at the DiscoNovember 3, 2005Madonna has transformed from pop icon to mother and back. The latest persona in her evolving image is that of a Disco queen. Only Madonna would dare revive Farrah Faccet’s 70s blonde flick hairdo and be able to pull it off. To mark her return to the dance floor the singer brings back her leotards and cut-off tights paying homage to the early disco days.

Hot hot hot!!!! Look at that bod!!!!

My babies

I know they look nothing like me, but here are some new pics of my babies. Jeremy usually has a twin sister, which for some reason I couldn't upload, nonetheless, perhaps Jeremy can make friends with Olivia and start an on-line relationship!

Hump Day

Crazy hump day today. Momma and Papa Wong come in this afternoon, so I gotta jet and pick them up, go to Richmond and pick up some food, go to Surrey and drop off the folks, have a little chow, go home and wait for big sis tonight to drive in from Calgary. Oh, and fireworks start tonight, not to mention SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE...my favorite show ever! I'm rootin for Travis!
